Irish Tax Payers -
Claim Income Tax Relief On Therapy Costs Now !

Did you know that you can claim income tax relief on most healthcare expenses including physiotherapy treatment if you are an Irish income tax payer?

Also, did you know that a refund on physiotherapy costs is available on most Irish health insurance plans. (You should however check with your provider to make sure any 'pre-existing conditions' such as Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injury and Genetic Disorders, etc. are covered under your insurance plan).

Under these plans, the cost of treatment can be significantly reduced. Chartered Physiotherapy is eligible for a refund with VHI, Quinn Medical, Hibernian Health (Vivas) and the Hospital Saturday Fund among others (however we do advise you to check your policy in case of additional terms and conditions).

Reimbursement rates vary depending on your policy, but as much as €40 per treatment can be reclaimed.

After you claim under the health insurance plan, tax relief is also available on the remaining balance which reduces the cost further. Even if your treatment is not covered on insurance, then you are still eligible to claim the tax relief on the whole cost. The income tax relief is currently 20% of the treatment cost.

As a tax payer you can then use the MED 1 form to claim this tax relief. For children's services we invoice the bill payer which is usually a family member or guardian of the child and whom may or may not be a tax payer.

Example of cost reduction with an eligible insurance plan

      Basic Session Cost:- €60
Less Insurance Refund:- €40 (Total cost now €20)
      Less 20% tax relief on €20 balance = €4

Total Cost of a session to YOU is only €16 (€20 - €4)
A MASSIVE SAVING of 73% on a basic session cost
    .

Example of cost reduction without an eligible insurance plan

      Basic Session Cost:- €60
      Less 20% tax relief on €60 balance = €12

Total Cost of a session to YOU is only €48 (€60 - €12) A saving of 20% on a basic session cost.
