31st December 2011 01.31 GMT - A New Year – A New Hope Over the last year like all other businesses, we have been feeling the effects of the economic downturn as people tighten their belts and cut back on all types of goods and services, including therapy services. We have had to continue to work hard at delivering effective therapy services for our child and adult patients and as a result the First Step Therapy Centre in Newry continues to go from strength-to-strength. Over the past year we have treated patients from many parts of Ireland and continue to treat patients from throughout Northern Ireland. All the patients who have committed to the First Step Therapy Programme and have attended regularly, have all made improvements in their condition. Some have made fantastic improvements such as being able to stand or walk for the first time. Some have improved their hand and upper-arm functions and fine-motor skills, whilst others have had improvements in speech, cognitive abilities and in social skills. We have treated patients with all manner of conditions, such as: - Stroke & Brain Injury We have also treated patients with a wide-range of back, leg and arm problems and have successfully treated less common conditions such as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, among others.
